Measured, not described

Every figure below is a flat garment measurement taken from a finished piece, in centimetres with the inch conversion beside it. We publish the method for each measurement so you can repeat it on something you already own and compare like with like.

Sewing has a tolerance. Ours is ±1 cm on every measurement. A piece that measures within that band is correct, and a piece outside it is a fault we will replace.

A tape measure laid across a folded shirt on a slate grey surface, with tailor's chalk and shears.
Measurements are taken with the piece flat and squared, never on a body.

How to use these tables

  1. 01

    Measure a piece you own

Take a shirt or trouser that fits you the way you want, lay it flat and square it up. Use the method notes under each table.

  2. 02

    Compare, do not convert

Match your flat measurements against the flat measurements here. Do not compare a body measurement to a garment measurement — they are not the same number.

  3. 03

    Choose the closer row

Between two rows, take the larger for tailoring and the smaller for knitwear. Knits give; woven suiting does not.

Reference bodies

Photographs on this site are of the garments themselves, laid flat, so there is no model fit to interpret. Where a product page names a reference body — 178 cm (5'10") wearing M, or 170 cm (5'7") wearing S — that is the body the pattern was checked against during fitting, not a person in the photograph.

Height changes where a hem lands more than it changes whether a size fits. The Cropped Trouser ends 8 cm above the ankle on a 170 cm body; on a 182 cm body the same trouser ends closer to the ankle bone. Body length and inseam are both published above so you can work this out before ordering rather than after.

Alterations

Trousers are cut with a 5–6 cm hem allowance so a tailor can shorten them. Note that a piece altered after delivery cannot be returned — see the returns policy for what that means in practice.

If a piece measures outside the tolerance

Measure it flat, photograph the tape in place, and send that to us. If it is outside ±1 cm we replace it or refund it in full, including return postage, and that is not counted against the 30-day return window.
